As a photographer, there’s nothing more rewarding than having clients return for another session. It’s a testament to the trust they place in your work and in capturing important moments in their lives. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing the family of a fantastic client I had previously worked with on a two-day branding shoot in downtown Calgary, Weaselhead Nature Area and South Glenmore shore. This time around, we were in the tranquil Griffith Woods Park.
Griffith Woods is a true gem – a tranquil park on the western edge of the city, filled with towering trees, winding trails, and the soft sounds of nature. It's one of those places that feels far removed from urban life, yet it's right within Calgary. The woodland scenery offers the perfect backdrop for family portraits, with natural lighting that changes beautifully throughout the day. It’s a place that the famliy frequents and the surroundings bring an organic, peaceful feel to the photos.
The Beauty of Candid Moments
What I love most about photographing families is capturing those in-between moments – the laughter, the playful interactions, and the natural affection that comes through when they’re simply enjoying time together. I have never been a proponent of highly posed imagery and the neither are Tyler or Rachelle. Instead I believe in moment based, movement inspired images created through natural personal ineraction and photographer guidance. The result is a beautfil range of images capturing the essence of the family and the shared experience of the photoshoot.
Reflecting on Growth and Gratitude As we wrapped up the session, with the sun beginning to set behind the trees, and enjoying some casual converation on the walk back, I felt grateful. Grateful not just for the beautiful setting and the lovely family, but for the ongoing opportunity to do what I truly enjoy – capturing moments that people will look back on years from now, and smile,
Griffith Woods Park provided the perfect backdrop for this session, and I know these photos will hold a special place in the family's memories. For me, this experience reaffirmed why I’m so passionate about photography: it’s not just about the pictures, but about telling the story of life, love, and everything in between.
